Mon 1 Aug - Thu 1 Sept "Marvellous things will happen; things even you never dreamt of..." - James and the Giant Peach Get the summer holidays off to a scrumdiddlyumptious start with our splendiferous family season celebrating the centenary year of iconic children's author Roald Dahl. From cult classics like Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and The Witches to this year's latest release The BFG, Dahl's creations have been brought to life on screen - and loved by Dahl fans of all ages - for decades. Away from the cinema screens head on over to our Book Den in the Café/Bar, a cosy relaxed reading space where we'll be hosting a variety of brain-bizzling (and totally FREE!) activities for families, featuring chocolate illustration, finger puppets, costume making, crafting, reading (with BSL interpreters) and more. Film tickets are just £6.50 for adults and £4.50 concessions and children - while all activities are free. BOOK DEN / Mon 1 Aug - Thu 1 Sept, day time in the Café/Bar Head on over to this relaxed reading space in the Café/Bar, where you'll find comfy seats, copies of Roald Dahl's books, and activities for the kids. All the activities in this area are free and fully grown human beans are always welcome too! JASMINE'S MARVELLOUS SWEETIE FACTORY / Mon 1 Aug, 14:00, FREE Invent your own sweet treat at this unique cooking demo event, inspired by Roald Dahl's inventive stories Charlie and The Chocolate Factory and George's Marvellous Medicine. MAKE A FINGER PUPPET / Fri 5 Aug, 10:00, FREE Come and make your very own insect finger puppet inspired by the bugs in Roald Dahl's James and The Giant Peach, then scuttle on over to the cinema to catch the animated film adaptation on the big screen. JAMES AND THE GIANT PEACH / Fri 5 - Sun 7 Aug Henry Selick (The Nightmare Before Christmas) beautiful captures the free-floating sense of adventure and wonder in this adaptation of Dahl’s creepy-crawly classic tale - about a boy who journeys across the Atlantic on a giant peach! MATILDA SCRATCH & SNIFF SCREENING / Sat 13 - Sun 14 Aug Super clever schoolgirl Matilda develops telekinetic powers - and uses them to get her own back on her horrid parents. Smell your way through the film with specially commissioned cards! THE WITCHES / Sun 14 Aug, 12:00 Luke discovers that a coven of witches are planning to turn all children in England into mice - starting with him - in Nicolas Roeg's dark and witty retelling of Dahl's tale. COSTUME MAKING / Fri 19 Aug, 10:00, FREE Come along to our Book Den and enjoy a costume making workshop inspired by Roald Dahl's furry entertaining story Fantastic Mr Fox. THE BFG / Fri 19 Aug - Thu 1 Sept Steven Spielberg re-united with ET writer Melissa Matheson to create this magical adaptation of Roald Dahl's adored tale which simply radiates with open-hearted warmth. FANTASTIC MR FOX / Fri 19 - Sat 20 Aug Wes Anderson's stop motion animation adaption of Dahl's tale follows Mr. Fox and his quirky band of animal friends as they try to outwit the farmers on their tails - a great fusion of two men's creative minds that will delight audiences little and large. GREMLINS / Sun 21 Aug, 12:00 Loosely inspired by the creatures from Dahl’s story The Gremlins, Joe Dante’s creature comedy horror is an homage to B-movie monsters - a Christmas and year-round classic!
