Why do some women choose to remain childfree? What are the consequences of this choice for their everyday lives Is it be possible to be a family without kids? In this talk, social psychologists Victoria Clarke and Nikki Hayfield explore the increasingly common phenomena of women choosing to be childfree. In addition to providing an overview of the research base on voluntary childlessness, and discussing media coverage of the childfree choice, Victoria and Nikki will discuss the outcomes of their recent research funded by the British Academy exploring the experiences of women who choose to remain childfree. They will also discuss a research project currently underway examining how childfree couples are perceived. The talk will be followed by a Q&A session.
