The 15th San Francisco Documentary Festival: celebrates non-fiction film from around the world and around The Bay for two weeks in June. The festival kicks off June 2nd with an amazing story of local female big-wave surfers breaking through to compete with the fellas at Mavericks and beyond. We're showing the film at the newly reopened Great Star Theater, a classic (and some say haunted!) single-screen theater in Chinatown. After IT AIN'T PRETTY, stick around for an after party featuring a live performance by El DePravo (featuring Chuck Prophet). Fifteen days and ninety films later, the Festival wraps on June 16th with Oscar®-nominated director Jason Cohen's SILICON COWBOYS, about the early days of the personal computer revolution. This year we honor self-distributing documentary phenomenon SEAN DUNNE with our Non-Fiction Vanguard Award by showing one of his features and a series of his recent short films. Join us at the BAD ART GALLERY for the open bar after-party on June 3rd celebrating Dunne and his work. We have more fun after-parties lined up as well. The Bawdy Caste will lead us in a sing-a-long celebration of the music of Rocky Horror Picture Show on June 3rd after the screening of the documentary ROCKY HORROR SAVED MY LIFE. And the SF music scene is celebrated on June 4th with a documentary about influential local label FAT WRECK CHORDS followed by a look at the early days of the SF rave community with the documentary BETWEEN THE BEATS. The party after that film will feature performances by some of the biggest DJs of the San Francico rave scene. For the last couple of years we have celebrated the music of Prince on his birthday. This year we bring back our PRINCE MUSIC VIDEO SING-A-LONG so we can once again gather together to celebrate the work of this amazing artist. The guys and gals from The Dark Room are also back with another MOVIE ROAST, this time around skewering the notorious Earth-revolves-around-the-sun doc THE PRINCIPLE. Like everything in this year's Festival, a show not to be missed. We are very excited to announce that this year's Festival is sponsored by SundanceNow Doc Club (docclub.com) where you can check out carefully curated and unforgettable documentaries anywhere and at any time. Plan to spend a couple weeks with us diving into all the variations of non fiction film at this year's SF DocFest. As our regular doc fans know, Truth Is Often Stranger Than Fiction.
