Jumana Emil Abboud: 'Haunted Springs and Water Demons in Palestine' takes its title from a 1920âēs study by ethnographer Dr. Tawfiq Canaan, documenting sites that were thought to be haunted by spirits, good and bad. With the remapping of the landscape â new towns, infrastructure, settlements, etc. â many of the sites have been buried, dried out, or obliterated. In the villages only the older generation recall such and such a haunted site, their knowledge often accompanied by fables once rumoured upon the village. For this event Abboud and cinematographer Isa Freij will present background on their journey to locate the well sites and some of the folk stories which belong to them. The presentation will be followed by a Q&A with curator Thomas Cuckle. Exhibition continues to 30th July'
