"You could say what Rembrandt did for the elderly; Mario has done for the African-American community. He registers everything his subjects have endured through the expressions on their faces, often in such a quiet way that the power is astonishing." ------ Dr. Fred Ross, CEO of the Art Renewal Center AGAPE is the Skylight Gallery’s debut exhibition of the masterful works of Mario Andres Robinson. As an artist of ever increasing prominence, he shares a level of proficiency that is equal to that found in works by Henry Ossawa Tanner, Andrew Wyeth, Diego Velazquez, John Singer Sargent, or Charles White. In addition to numerous exhibitions featuring his intimate and powerful portraits of rural environs and their African American inhabitants, Mario A. Robinson’s work has been highlighted in the American Paintings Auction at Sotheby’s. Along with other corporate acquisitions, the Bank of America also includes several of Mr. Robinson’s major works in its permanent collection. These works were part of the national traveling exhibition, “Mixing Metaphors”, curated by Deborah Willis. The Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation, Center for Art and Culture’s Skylight Gallery and its community partners, proudly invite you to join with us in celebrating the art of Mario Andres Robinson.
