Details

Mahout-Mahut is an installation by Claudia Sacher with dance response by Maria Vincentelli, Antonia Azocar-Nevin and Beth Veitch in the SHED at Whistle Art Stop, Haltwhistle, on Saturday 11th April at 12pm. A poetic text by Max P., a writer from Essen/the Ruhr area, Germany, is the starting point for a piece of dance movement in a white space. The space can be viewed as a huge elephant-like skin upon which the dancers leave marks. They will create a story using materials provided on the set with the poetic text inspiring them as they move. Chalk and transparent paper covered with ink drawings will be used to provide sound effects, imitating harsh weather conditions where an elephant might be blown over - exactly like those in Haltwhistle/Northumberland. The dancers will be equipped with a stick to try and tame the wind just like a mahout when he is making an elephant work. After the performance, Sacher will use the marks left on the canvas by the dancers to produce another huge painting as part of the residency. The painting will be shown at the end of the residency on the Saturday 25th April 11-2pm next to new poetry produced by Max P. and photographs recording the ten years of work that Sacher has produced since moving to Northumberland.
