"Literacy is freedom, and everyone has something significant to say." ~Jimmy Santiago Baca Join us for an evening of cocktails, conversation, and literary contributions - all for a cause! This event takes place from 6-9 pm. A literary Happy Hour will kick off the event from 6-7, followed by a reading with a dynamite lineup from 7-8. Afterwards, please stick around for book signings and more cocktails. And the best part? The more cocktails and whiskey bottles you purchase, the more you'll be giving back. Authors featured at this event include: ERIC BOYD TOI DERRICOTTE SHERRIE FLICK HEATHER McNAUGHER and SARAH SHOTLAND There is a $5 suggested donation at the door, and 12% of all cocktails/bottle sales go directly towards the Words Without Walls* program (see below). And that's not all! We're also holding a book drive! The Allegheny County Jail is finally getting a library for its residents, and we're collecting any and all paperback books for the cause (Repeat: paperback only, please). This initiative, the Gumberg Library ACJ project, is driven by Duquesne University - any donations are greatly appreciated! Be sure to mark your calendars and show your support - you won't want to miss this special evening of words and whiskey. *Words Without Walls is a creative writing outreach program that serves the Allegheny County Jail, the State Correctional Institution Pittsburgh, and Sojourner House, a residential drug and alcohol treatment program for mothers and their children.
