We live in a rapidly changing society, where norms that we have taken for granted are challenged daily. We live in a society where equality has been praised as a cornerstone, and yet our views of equality and gender-roles are polarized. We have recent example in Swedish politics where the politician Yasri Khan left his office when he wouldn’t shake hands with a female reporter due to his faith. We live in a time where parts of the world have legalized marriage for everyone, yet the debate rages on whether it should be a privilege for heterosexuals or for all. We have debates about our gender roles. What does it mean to be a man or woman in modern society? What does it mean if you feel that the binary gender system does not apply to all? Samtalsaktivisterna invites you to take part in our Open Talk about sexual norms and gender norms. How do they affect us, and the society we live in? What challenges are we facing, and how can conversations bridge the gap in our different views about the norms that affect us all? This Open Talk will be in English. If we are going to learn to live with each other, we need to learn how to talk with each other. We are Samtalsaktivisterna. What opinions are you trying to sell to me right now? A: The Open Talks are workshops where the aim is not to present to you any opinions, solutions or an ideology. We aim to create a space where you as a participant can voice your views and take part of the privilege of creating understanding between your views and that of your peers. Samtalsaktivisterna is not affiliated to any political party, political movements or organizations. Q: I barely have any experience of this subject, what can I contribute with? A: You will need no experience, training or special education to be a part of the Open Talks. Your unique view of the subject will be valued, since we want to find the collective views of our communities. No previous knowledge is needed! Q: I will need coffee. A: There will be coffee and fika. Q: What does it cost? A: The event, as always, is cost free.
