Westboro Baptist Church has announced their intention to protest the funeral of a fallen Ag. Lt Col. Roy Tisdale It is proposed that we respond with true Aggie spirit. In response to their yelling, we will be silent. Like silver taps, like Bonfire Memorial. In response to their signs of hate, we will wear maroon. In response to their mob anger, we will form a line, arm in arm. This is a silent vigil. A manifestation of our solidarity. We must establish and enforce some ground rules, because Westboro loves pushing their constitutional rights down our throat. 1. Do not engage their protesters physically or verbally. The strength of our statement is in our silence. I have heard some groups may intend to razz or antagonize WBC. Remember why we are there, a funeral for the fallen. 2. One Line, no circle. We shall form a line between the protesters and the church. Circles, legally, could be seen as threatening. They have a right to their free speech, we have a right to our free silence. if the line is long, double the line, but don't stand in the street, and don't attempt to physically block WBC protesters. 3. Hydrate. Its going to be hot. Bring sunscreen and water to share if you can. In accordance with the solemn image we are trying to project, please no food or alcohol. 3. WE WILL DISPERSE IF REQUESTED BY THE FAMILY, LAW ENFORCEMENT, OR CHURCH STAFF. No ifs, ands, or buts. We are not a mob, we are a family. 4. WE WILL POLICE OURSELVES. If a fellow Ag breaks the above rules we will, as a group, handle it peacefully. If someone is getting aggressive or emotional we will walk them from the line, talk to them, calm them. Be a family to one another. Invite fellow Ag's to this group, tell Ag's who show up, tell the world, BUT tell them the rules. Our image is to be silent, professional, and solemn. A fitting tribute for one of so many of our own whom have given their all for our freedom. We will be making contact with the church and hopefully securing the permission of the family asap. Stay tuned for details.
