ANTI-HUMANISME Video-værker af Lu Yang Kurateret af Jakob Kudsk Steensen Fernisering 9 Januar kl. 17-21 Åbent 10 – 24 Januar 2015 Onsdag-Lørdag 13-17 Ok Corral Malttorvet 2, 1799 København V, Carlsberg byen www.okcorral.dk ANTI- HUMANISME er en solo udstilling med den kinesiske kunstner Lu Yang, der skildrer nutidens tekno-videnskabelige menneskesyn som værende ligeså dragende, underholdende og sanseligt, som det er kræftfremkaldende. Lu Yang arbejder på tværs af populærkulturens medier, og samarbejder med professionelle videnskabsmænd, animatorer og computerspilsudviklere. Hun har produceret værker, der udfordrer såvel nutidens tekno-videnskabelige tankesæt som de etiske og bio-fysiske grænser, der har defineret hvad det betyder at være moderne menneske. I den digitalt animerede film Wrathfull Kingcore er den buddistiske gud for vold og vrede skildret og forklaret via neurovidenskabelige illustrationer. I filmen Uterus Man følger vi den kønsløse helt af samme navn, der kæmper imod genetiske mutationer og infektioner inde i menneskekroppen ved at transportere sig rundt i sit ”pelvis vehicle”. Med Kraftrtremor: Parkingsons Disease Orchestra udfordres vores etiske grænser af bio-teknologi, og dens kontrol over mennesker. Lu Yangs værker kan virke "Anti-humanistiske" ved første øjekast, men de udtrykker også en form for ironi, fascination og oprigtighed. Måske er det Lu Yang viser os i virkeligheden ikke en form for anti-humanisme, men en måde at sanse kroppen på og tænke hvad det betyder at være menneske i det 21 århundrede? Ved udstillingsstedet Science Friction, vil interaktive computerspil- kunstværker af Lu Yang blive vist imellem d. 22-28. Der vil i perioden blive afholdt en 8-bit koncert samt afholdt workshop om kunst som computerspil. [www.sciencefriction.dk] I forbindelse med udstillingen vil der blive udgivet et katalog med titlen "Anti-Humanime". Lu Yang er en af de mest indflydelsesrige yngre kinesiske samtidskunstnere. Hun er uddannet fra China Academy of Art, New Media Department. Hun har igennem de sidste par år udstillet ved en række museer, gallerier og udstillingssteder internationalt, og hun har i 2014 været i residency ved AACC i New York og Symbiotica i Australien. Udstillingen er Lu Yangs første i Danmark. Jakob Kudsk Steensen er uddannet fra Central St. Martins, School of Fine Arts og Københavns Universitet. Han arbejder som kunstner og kurator, og har tidligere boet samt arbejdet i Kina. Han har bl.a. udstillet ved London Science Museum, V22 Bermondsey og under Shanghai Art and Design Festival. Udstillingen er Jakobs første kuraterede udstilling i Danmark. Udstillingen er realiseret i samarbejde med galleriet Beijing Commune i Kina. Lu Yang works across multiple media-formats, and she has produced art works in collaboration with professional scientists, animators and computer-game developers. Her practice challenges the aesthetics of popular-science and entertainment culture, as well as the ethical and bio-physical limitations of today's technologies. In the digitally animated videoWrathfull Kingcore, the Buddhist God of violence and wrath is depicted alongside neuroscientific illustrations. In her anime inspired work Uterus Man, we follow the gender-less hero of the same name, who combats genetic mutations and infections inside the human body. Krafttremor: Parkingsons Disease Orchestra is a video-work challenging the ethical limitations of bio-technologies and the control these can have over humans. However "anti-human" Lu Yang's work might appear at first sight, they also express a sense of sincerity, humor and fascination. This begs the question if what Lu Yang shows us, is in reality sensations of the human body and a form of 21st techno-humanity that demands our attention? In collaboration with the exhibition space Science Friction in Copenhagen, interactive computer-game art works by Lu Yang will be exhibited between the 22-28 of January. During this period there will be workshops on computer-games as art, and Science Friction will host a concert with 8-bit music. Lu Yang is one of the most renowned young artists in China, and she is educated from China Academy of Arts, New Media Department. Throughout the past couple of years, she has exhibited at multiple museums, galleries and exhibition spaces internationally, and in 2014 she has been a resident at AACC in New York and Symbiotica in Australia. ANTI-HUMANISM is Lu Yang´s first show in Denmark. Jakob Kudsk Steensen is educated from Central St. Martins, School of Fine Arts and Copenhagen University. He works as an artist and curator, and he has previously lived and worked in China. He has recently exhibited at London Science Museum, V22 in Bermondsey and at Shanghai Art and Design Festival. ANTI-HUMANISM is Jakob´s first curated show in Denmark. The exhibition is realized in collaboration with the gallery Beijing Commune in China.
