The Occupy movement shows that millions of Americans are fed up with our stale stand-in for "democracy," the voting process which keeps Democrans and Republicrats in indefinite power, preventing any chance of true change in this country. By boycotting the vote during the presidential election, we can declare our political independence from the two corporate parties, sustain our relevance as a movement throughout the electioneering media frenzy, and send a powerful message to the 1% that we will not legitimize their plutocracy by casting a vote for either evil or the lesser of two evils. This is a strike that any American can participate in, and we can use the opportunity to discuss what a true and substantive democracy looks like, regardless of the purely symbolic, culturally destructive, micro-managed voting process. Many in the Occupy movement and others will choose not to vote anyway, so let us turn our disdain for the false choices we are offered into a strategic victory that brings ordinary people into the fold of our movement!
