Artist as curator IV /// Constantin Hartenstein presents @ FAQ 5.5.2017 /// 18:00 Uhr Participating Artists: Allison Brainard Michael Brynntrup Gary Fembot Philipp Gufler Byron Kalomamas Bruce Labruce Antonio da Silva Angela Stiegler Clemens Wilhelm 6pm opening Constantin Hartenstein presents his two newest video installations at FAQ for the duration of the exhibition: YOU LOVE THIS FEELING, 9 min, 2017 ALPHA, 5 min, 2015 7pm screening „XXX“ (FSK 18), 66 min „XXX“ is a selection of contemporary and groundbreaking gay and LGBTQIA video art works. Often shocking, definitely not safe for work and 18 plus, the works blur the boundaries between individual desire and societal constraint: how many dick pics can you take? What happened to all your lovers if you look back? Can we abandon the binary scheme? What if there was a class war and EVERYBODY came? If we fuck with nature, will nature eventually fuck back? 8.30pm screening „No Skin Off My Ass“ by Bruce Labruce (FSK 18), 73 min With LaBruce, Klaus von Brücker, G.B. Jones. In addition to the screening program „XXX“, Constantin Hartenstein will present „No Skin Off My Ass“, the first feature film of Canadian filmmaker Bruce Labruce. Described as Kurt Cobain´s and Gus van Sant´s favourite movie of all times, this shocking work follows a lonely hairdresser who visits a local park to invite a down-and-out skinhead to his apartment. Hailed by the critic Amy Taubin as “sweeter than Warhol, subtler than Kuchar, sexually more explicit than Van Sant,” LaBruce’s debut feature emerged during the efflorescence of queer cinema in the early 1990s. Shot in grainy Super-8, the picture centers around a hairdresser who falls for a handsome, taciturn skinhead, and their peculiar courtship is punctuated by memorable sequences with the skin’s sister, a lesbian underground filmmaker with plans to make a movie about the Symbionese Liberation Army. No Skin Off My Ass is like That Cold Day in the Park replayed as a punk rock daydream, yet here Robert Altman’s idiosyncratic thriller has become a lo-fi love story, featuring LaBruce as a swishy stand-in for Sandy Dennis. Now a homocore classic, No Skin is a complex exploration of how subculture is articulated through style, and a poignant study in erotic fascination. WARNING: both screening programs exhibit explicit images of gay sex and male genitalia. If you are sensitive towards explicit material, please don´t attend the event. You have to be 18 years or older to watch the films. The screening programs are made possible by the generous support of the featured artists and the hosting institutions.
