Uncommon Ground presents a rare night of three Chicago female powerhouse musicians: DANIELA SLOAN -- 10:20pm Daniela is all grit, soul, and smiles. Hot off her recent feature interview and performance on NPR, she sings with the soulful classic sound of Nina Simone blended with the fresh approach and poetry of Jill Scott. Her original songs are "acoustic soul" and her sound lingers between hip-hop, blues, and Latin as her Colombian heritage dictates. Daniela has performed both nationally and internationally but, Chicago is home and it is where her urban sound resonates across generations. https://soundcloud.com/morningshiftwbez/chicago-singer-songwriter ANNA SOLTYS -- 9:40pm Anna is the frontwoman for Anna Soltys and the Familiar, a modern Folk Rock band with an entrancing new sound. It is the cross-cultural awareness that may awaken the type of delivery that is so unique to her sound. On top of the music, her lyrical, poetic content fills the heart with an awareness of the self we could all use a little of. She is a Chicagoan born to Cuban parents who began performing boleros and rumba flamenca covers in Chicago in 1999. Since then, she performed latin music in Florida and in Spain where she began her study of spanish guitar. In 2010- 2013 while living in Madrid, she came into contact with many folk musicians who influenced her songwriting. In 2012, she released her first album Cold Bed, a blend of folk and blues.
